Do you want to help our ocean environment but aren’t sure where to start? Or do
you want to earn the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, and need another cert to get
there? Or maybe you just want to meet new local dive buddies, while doing
something good on a weekend morning close to home.
No matter what your reason, you can gain the knowledge and skills to launch your
inner “citizen diver” in the PADI “Dive Against Debris” Specialty course! We have
two of them scheduled this month, and the dives will be in nearby South Tampa.
What You Will Do
Your training will begin with 2 hours of academics, led by an expert Calypso
instructor, at 6PM on the Wednesday evening before your dive. Topics will include:
Global marine debris and damage, and how divers are part of the solution;
How to conduct a debris survey, and knowing what to leave behind
How to make your survey count… five easy steps to report your findings to
marine scientists, and help benefit our local and global oceans;
How to join the worldwide Project AWARE movement of scuba divers;
How to earn volunteer diving hours for resumes or college scholarships.
Then you’ll join a real world Calypso dive group for an underwater “Dive Against
Debris” dive and survey. This will include collecting, weighing, sorting, recording,
disposing and reporting your marine debris to Project AWARE.
Includes classroom training, equipment rental, a one tank dive and PADI certification
You may use your own scuba gear.
